Jacqueline New is the author of the DCI McNeill Scottish crime thrillers, atmospheric police procedurals that deliver gripping mysteries set against the evocative backdrop of Edinburgh’s streets and landscapes.
Born in Yorkshire, Jacqueline’s creative journey began with a focus on art and design. After qualifying, she launched a career as an interior designer before transitioning to fine art restoration and animal portraiture. Her artistic talents led to a regular column in a monthly art magazine, where she shared her expertise in drawing and illustration. Eventually, her lifelong passion for storytelling drew her to the world of writing.
For over a decade, Jacqueline honed her craft in historical and contemporary mysteries before introducing readers to DCI McNeill and his team at the Edinburgh Serious Crime Unit in 2023. The series quickly established itself as a must-read for fans of intelligent, atmospheric, gritty, crime fiction.
In addition to writing, Jacqueline continues to nurture her artistic side, contributing illustrations to her other books, and is currently working on a children’s fantasy series. Her dual creative talents bring a unique depth to her work, blending visual storytelling with compelling narratives.
Having lived and worked in various parts of the UK and abroad, Jacqueline has now returned to her hometown in Yorkshire.
